Chapter 30
Emerson runs across the loft to check on Jack. She wants to know what he as he isn’t a rip or traveler but something in between. She can’t find Jack and when she returns to the Phone Company she learns that Michael has left with a “tall and gorgeous’ girl with auburn hair. Emerson cringes because it is Ava. Michael left with her saying Emerson was to stay put and not contact him. The reason he left has something to do with Kaleb.
Michael makes Thomas promise him to keep Emerson out of it and he does so by taking her phone and keeping a close on eye her so she can’t leave. Emerson says she is going to Murphy’s Law to pick up her check but she really plans to hunt down Michael. She dresses in an eye catching outfit and as she is leaving the loft Dru catches her. Instead of arguing Dru gives her back her cell phone and cars keys.
“I’m going to Murphy’s Law. I already cleared it with the prison matron, even though her panties were in a wad about it.” (pg. 213)
Chapter 31
Emerson stops by Murphy’s Law where Lily gives her some friendly advice about putting herself on display for a guy. Emerson says she is throwing her hat in the ring, making her intentions known. The reason Emerosn stopped at Murphy’s was because she wanted Lily to help her find Michael ‘the way she finds things.’ Lily is not pleased by Emerson’s observations and explains that she can find things but she isn’t really allowed to by Abi. Emerson explains to Lily about how she can see things from the past but can’t explain much more.
“Okay. Wow. What are you going for with this look? Are you headed for a playboy bunny convention? Because whatever you are doing, I can guess it’s not making coffee.” (pg. 214)
